The Firewheel tree---Stenocarpus sinuatus, at Waimea is about 25 feet tall. This unusual tree is one of Australia’s most spectacular trees. This is a protea tree that has adapted to our subtropical climate in Hawaii.
         
Royal Poinciana with it's spectacular orange blossoms covering the ground.
 
       
    The Royal Poinciana (Delonix regia) tree is in the pea family (fabaceae). This is the yellow form.    
 
       
    Ko`oloa`ula, a native hibiscus that has flowers that hang down like Chinese lanterns.
